Independent marine surveyor matching
Marine surveys across Greece and the islands

Find the right marine surveyor for your boat in Greece

Request an independent yacht or boat survey in Athens, the Ionian, the Aegean or Crete. Island group, ferry or flight access, local haul-out capability and the vessel’s launch status all affect how the assignment is planned.

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Greek survey locations

Match the surveyor to the Greek island group and access plan

A marina name is not enough for many Greek assignments. Confirm the island, berth or yard, ferry or flight route, lift capacity, pressure-wash permission and whether a sea trial can start from the vessel’s current location.

Athens, Piraeus & Attica

Alimos · Piraeus · Lavrio · Olympic Marine · Saronic Gulf

The largest concentration of brokerage, technical services and travel connections. Lavrio and Attica yards can be practical bases for haul-out and specialist attendance.

Ionian Islands

Corfu · Gouvia · Preveza · Lefkas · Kefalonia · Zakynthos

Preveza and Lefkas are important haul-out centres, while island assignments may require ferry or road travel. Confirm whether the vessel is afloat, ashore or in winter storage.

Cyclades

Syros · Mykonos · Paros · Naxos · Santorini

Inter-island schedules and weather can control access. Syros may provide broader yard capability, but the exact vessel location and inspection window remain essential.

Find a surveyor in this region

Dodecanese

Rhodes · Kos · Leros · Kalymnos

The islands form a separate travel market from Athens. Establish haul-out availability and whether machinery or rig specialists need to travel.

Northern Aegean & Sporades

Volos · Skiathos · Thessaloniki · Kavala · Lesvos

Mainland gateways and island locations have different access routes. Seasonal launch status and yard opening arrangements should be checked before fixing the survey date.

Crete

Heraklion · Chania · Agios Nikolaos · Rethymno

Crete should be treated as its own travel area. Confirm lift limits, repair-yard access and report timing before appointing a mainland-based specialist.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What location details are needed for a survey in Greece?

Give the island, town, marina or yard, berth or hard-standing status and nearest practical airport or ferry connection. Include the launch date, lift arrangements and any restricted access.

Can a surveyor travel between Greek islands?

Travel may be possible, but availability, ferry or flight schedules, weather, accommodation and travel cost must be agreed. A surveyor based in the correct island group may be more practical.

What should be arranged for a pre-purchase survey?

Agree access with the seller or broker, make documents and keys available, and arrange haul-out, pressure washing and a sea trial if these form part of the scope. Machinery diagnostics or rig inspection may require separate specialists.

Can I request an English-language report?

Yes, report language is part of the request. Confirm the language, deadline, intended recipient and reliance rights directly with the surveyor before appointment.

Is a Greek professional title the same as flag approval?

No. Naval architecture, engineering or professional membership may demonstrate relevant background, but a registry or recognised organisation may require a specific appointment for tonnage, statutory or registration work.

Who appoints and pays the marine surveyor?

The client appoints the surveyor directly after agreeing scope, fee, timing and terms. Greece Marine Survey is an information and referral service and does not perform the inspection.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include island delivery & sea trials, refit & repair supervision, rig & mast inspections, engine diagnostics, moisture, osmosis & corrosion, accident investigation, stability-related work, charter handover surveys. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
